Let’s bust the myth of EVs being unable to do road trips on highways. For context, I have done ~50,000 km of highway driving, majorly in 2022, 2023 and 2024, with little to no hassle. Here is the data and free to read articles on it.

ExpWithEVs’ highway road trips

As of June 2026, India has ~20,200 CCS2 connectors within 250m of a national highway or a national expressway. That is 72% of India’s fast charging infrastructure. The highway coverage further rises to 81%, if we exclude the major metro cities. Most people spend their time in cities, missing the bulk of growth in charging infrastructure.

We are discussing publicly accessible charging infrastructure. The information is collected by manual data entry from 84 Charge Point Operators. Top CPOs on highways

Among the top ten CPOs, we find that PSUs like HPCL and BPCL are at the forefront of setting up charging infrastructure on highways, with HPCL having more than 70% of the fast connectors on highways. We’ve covered the state of their network in our previous article.

For the private sector, the flag bearer is EcoPlug, with 58% of their fast charging network on highways and expressways. Adani TGas is next at 55%.

A 60-40 split between charging infrastructure on highways is considered as a CPO with good focus on highways. Statiq is the lowest at 38% of its network on highways.

If we consider most fast charging connectors on highways as a metric, then Zeon would replace Statiq in this chart. Zeon’s 69% of fast charging infrastructure is on National Highways and Expressways.

In absolute counts for fast connectors on highways, the ranking among CPOs is as follows → BPCL, HPCL, IOCL, Tata Power, Jio-bp, Adani TGas, ChargeZone, Zeon, EcoPlug, Glida.
