2606 - Charging Infrastructure
We grew, and how!
A single connector can charge one car at a time. One charger can have one or more than one connectors. A charging station can have one or more than one chargers.
Today, we will look at growth of charging infrastructure across various aspects :
Pan India Connectors, State Distribution, Zonal Growth, CPO Distribution, IOCL, and Uttar Pradesh.

We are discussing publicly accessible charging infrastructure. The information is collected by manual data entry from 84 Charge Point Operators. The cut off date for this data collection is 30th June 2026. All data and charts are under CC BY-SA-NC license.
Pan India Growth
In the last twelve months, the fast (CCS2) charging infrastructure has grown ~73%, while Type2 has been on a steady decline.
This quarter, we added a fast connector every 26 minutes. The private and the public sector have doubled the installation speed from the previous quarters. If such momentum continues, we will be at ~50,000 fast connectors by June 2027.
India has a total of 31,959 public charging connectors. We can charge 31,959 cars together if all connectors are working. From 2020 to 2025, the EV industry sold ~450K electric cars. In first half of this year, they sold another ~138K electric cars. Thus, our car to connector ratio is at 18.4, at par with many developed countries.
I strongly believe that the charging infrastructure is keeping up with the demand on a national level, for now.
This ratio does not include the home chargers that are present for atleast 80% of the vehicle owners. Most car owners do not rely on public charging in their daily routine.
