In our previous article we compared the growth and decline of charging infrastructure across CPOs and states from December 2024 to March 2025. Premium subscribers also got a hold of how average power varied by CPOs and states across the two reports. Today, we will evaluate how has the charger hosts changed over time, along with amenities around the charger and the average price by CPOs and states.

Note on Terminology and Data

In this article, we use "2412" to refer to data from December 2024 and "2503" for data up to March 2025. Our analysis compares these two snapshots of EV charging infrastructure, focusing on the 41 Charge Point Operators (CPOs) common to both periods. Note that the 2503 snapshot includes 49 CPOs, while 2412 includes 41. To ensure consistency, we analyze only the 41 CPOs present in both cycles. Some figures may differ from previously published reports due to this refined scope.

Introduction

This article is part of a three-part series analyzing quarter-by-quarter (2503 vs 2412) growth in EV charging infrastructure. We will cover charger counts, average power ratings, pricing trends, amenities near chargers, host types, coverage along national highways, and a special feature page across the three parts. Let’s dive in

CCS2 chargers - Host Type

Figure 1 : Y axis hidden. CCS2 chargers comparison by host type across 2412 and 2503

We see a notable rise in number of CCS2 chargers at Fuel Pumps. It takes no prize for guessing who is responsible for that. Our good old, public CPOs. There are minor increases in Commercial buildings, Hotels, Public Places and Restaurants. Standalone EV Charging Stations have seen a minor decline.

Overall, there are barely any additions to CCS2 chargers in Malls, but when we look at that data via States, there’s a different story here to undercover.

But first, let’s verify our hunch by checking out increase in chargers at Fuel Pumps by CPOs.

Figure 2 : Y axis hidden. CCS2 chargers comparison at Fuel Pumps by CPOs

BPCL, HPCL and IOCL are the primary players riding an increase in CCS2 chargers at Fuel Pumps. chargeMOD added their first charger at a fuel pump in this quarter. There is a notable decline in Shell Recharge chargers due to the disclaimer mentioned in the previous article.

CCS2 chargers in malls across states

Figure 3 : Y axis hidden. CCS2 chargers comparison at Malls by States

Maharashtra and West Bengal have seen notable rise in CCS2 infrastructure at malls. One player is mainly responsible for increase in the infrastructure in Maharashtra and one other player is responsible for reduction in CCS2 chargers in Haryana and Delhi. If you know the answer to both, DM me on LinkedIn to win a special prize. You cannot belong to either companies to win this prize :)

More insights are available for EVTrends and EVInfraBI customers. Lets look at Type2 chargers now.

Type2 chargers - Host Type

Figure 4 : Y axis hidden. Type2 chargers comparison at various Host Types

It is good to see Type2 chargers increasing at hotels, commercial buildings and in residential areas. These are the places where people usually spend considerable amount of time, thereby allowing the cars to charge slowly.

Figure 5 : Y axis hidden. Type2 chargers comparison at Commercial buildings by CPOs

Jio-bp is a leader when it comes to public Type2 charging in commercial buildings. The number two, Tata Power, reduced the number of Type2 chargers in commercial buildings, whereas Bijlify, Statiq, Glida and NikolEV added chargers. If Bijlify continues to add chargers at this rate, it can soon compete with Jio-bp, but that is a big if.

Figure 6 : Y axis hidden. Type2 chargers at Public Places across states

It is lovely to see Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab adding Type2 chargers at public places. The number of Type2 chargers at public places also went up in Delhi, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh. The leaders in this space are Gujarat (for obvious reasons) and Maharashtra. The reasons for high number of chargers at public places in Maharashtra is due to it being a relatively mature charging infrastructure market as compared to other states.

Amenities

Most EV customers would prefer a charging station with amenities around it. In this section, we will compare the amenities around the charging network as a whole and see what changes have happened so far.

CCS2 by CPOs

Figure 7 : Y axis hidden. Amenities around CCS2 chargers by CPOs

The amenities have either stayed consistent or has reduced a bit for some CPOs. Only a handful of CPOs have managed to increase the number of amenities around their charging stations.

It is highly unlikely for amenities to go down near a charger. When someone installs a charger, amenities come to a charger given increased footfall. Another context to remember when analysing this data is to keep in mind how many chargers were added or removed by the CPO or in the state. When chargers are added in non urban areas, the amenities around the chargers will go down. When they are added to urban areas, nearby amenities go up.

With these caveats in mind, let’s look at what the data has to show us.

We know that IOCL, BPCL and ChargeZone added big number of chargers in this quarter. All three CPOs saw a downward trend in the amenities nearby, indicating addition of chargers in non urban areas.

We do have an example where amenities have gone up around chargers. emobility has not seen any significant change among their chargers but the number of amenities around their chargers have gone up. emobility has chargers both in urban and non urban areas. This indicates that more amenities have been added around the charger, showcasing that businesses do flock to EV chargers. As we’ve seen with emobility, we expect the amenities around newly added non urban chargers to also go up in a few quarters, once the chargers are being used by CPOs.

NikolEV, EVDock, Glida, Bijlify - all added chargers in urban areas (as verified by EVInfraBI) and the average amenities around their chargers went up.
